Scanner Exercise

Task Description:

This exercise will show you how to receive input from the console using the Scanner class

Task List:

In IntelliJ, create a new package under the src folder named scannerExample.

Create a new class named UserInputTester in the ** scannerExample** package.

Create a main method: public static void main(String[] args){}.

Inside the main method, instantiate your scanner object: Scanner scanner = new Scanner(System.in);

Because the nextLine() method throws a checked exception, we will need to wrap the blocks in a try and catch. We want to try to run code that asks the user for a string: System.out.println("Enter a String"); String userInput = scanner.nextLine(); System.out.println("User Input: " + userInput);

Then we want to catch any exceptions that occur: catch (Exception ex) { ex.getLocalizedMessage(); }

We also need to add a finally block to close the scanner resource so we avoid memory leaks: finally { scanner.close(); }

Right click on the UserInputTester and select run. From the console, you should now be able to enter some input to interact with the program.
